Link/Tidbit: Inaugural Address

I am sure you can find the actual speech somewhere on Youtube, but here is the transcript.

I think it is just as important to read these speeches as it is to listen to them and to watch them (those are three very different activities). In reading a speech, I find you often notice themes and motifs you don’t detect in listening. In listening and reading, you often notice a lot of very clever or subtle rhetorical devices, important to the message, which are missed when watching a speech.

Also, as a budding historian, I appreciate that it was not that long ago when 99% of Americans did not listen to anything the President said but instead read it. Especially those Americans who were overseas, such as myself.
